What makes gym air conditioning cost more

Three things push a gym above office pricing for the same floor area: heat load, ventilation and zoning.

The biggest driver is heat load. A busy gym can hold one person per 3-5 m² at peak, and every member exercising gives off two to three times the heat of someone sitting at a desk. Add treadmills and other powered equipment, plus lighting, and the cooling demand per square metre climbs well above office levels - which is why the system for a gym is larger, and the bill higher, for the same area.

Ventilation and humidity are the second factor.
