LG's air conditioning arm benefits from the same design and app investment as its televisions and appliances — and undercuts the premium Japanese brands on price.

LG builds its own inverter compressors — its Dual Inverter design underpins the current ranges and is backed by long compressor-specific warranties in many markets — and the day-to-day experience is polished: the ThinQ app is among the better manufacturer apps, and the Artcool range is arguably the most striking-looking wall unit you can buy, with mirrored and gallery-style fascias. Efficiency on current R32 models is competitive for the price, though the very best Japanese premium units still hold an edge in seasonal figures and low-speed quietness.

Who LG suits

The Artcool earns its place in design-led living rooms where a standard white unit would jar. If the unit will run all day every day, or overnight in a bedroom where every decibel counts, weigh the running-cost and noise advantages of the premium tier before deciding.

Running costs in 2026

As an air-to-air heat pump, an LG split cools in summer and heats through the shoulder months, so its running costs track the price of electricity. Under the Ofgem price cap for July–September 2026 that means about 26.11p per kWh, a standing charge of 57.19p per day and a headline dual-fuel cap of £1,663 a year. Because current LG models achieve a SCOP of roughly 3.5–4, each unit of electricity delivers three to four units of heat, making a modern LG split markedly cheaper to run than a plug-in electric heater. In cooling mode it is also a low-power appliance — once the room is up to temperature a 2.5 kW living-room unit draws far less than its grille rating suggests.
