Planning notes for Surrey installations
For most Surrey houses a wall-mounted unit is permitted development, provided the outdoor unit meets the siting and size conditions. Two situations need more care. Conservation areas: Guildford's centre and Charlotteville, Farnham's Georgian core, Godalming, Reigate, Dorking and many village centres are designated, and consent may be required for an outdoor unit visible from the street. Listed buildings: consent is always needed before fixing anything to the fabric.
The Surrey Hills National Landscape (formerly AONB) arcs from Haslemere across the Greensand and North Downs to Oxted; designation does not remove permitted development rights, but councils look more closely there.
