Kent's air conditioning market splits along the M25 and M20. Planning notes for Kent installations

The county's exceptional number of listed buildings is the main qualification: oast houses, Wealden hall houses, Georgian and Victorian high streets in Tunbridge Wells, Sevenoaks, Tonbridge, Maidstone, Faversham, Rochester and Canterbury, and countless village cottages are listed, and consent is always required before fixing anything to their fabric. Conservation areas — the Pantiles and much of central Tunbridge Wells, Sevenoaks, Westerham, Tonbridge, Cranbrook and many villages — may require consent for a visible outdoor unit.
The Kent Downs National Landscape (formerly AONB) crosses the county from the Surrey border to the White Cliffs, and the High Weald National Landscape covers much of the south-west around Tunbridge Wells and Cranbrook; designation brings closer scrutiny rather than a ban. Flats in Dartford, Maidstone, Ashford and the Medway towns need the freeholder or managing agent's permission, and new estates at Ebbsfleet and Ashford may carry covenants on external alterations.
